NEWS FROM THE PEWS
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We start by wishing everyone in the Parish of Renhold and Christians every where a very happy and peaceful new year. As the celebration of Christmastide start to draw to a close there is much to report.
We started Advent in a special way by welcoming our village school to use the Church for their own advent activities, we were thrilled that the older classes were able to join us for Holy Communion on the first Wednesday, something we have all committed to repeat.
By the 19th December for the Carol Service, the Church looked wonderful thanks to our amazing team of flower arrangers, cleaners and helpers. In a packed Church, representatives of our village organisations read the lessons whilst everyone joined in the familiar carols. During the Mulled Wine and mince pie reception that followed, the annual Christmas Hamper draw went to a truly worthy winner - Kathleen Gilbert, our long standing treasurer!
On Christmas Eve the Church was full once again for the Nativity Service. The photo opposite captures the “human” crib re-created in the Chancel Sincere thanks to our wonderful readers Noah, Adam, Declan, Emily and Arthur and all the children that dressed up.
Back again at midnight for our first Christmas Communion (and the chance to sing the last verse of “Oh Come all ye faithful”), the church basking in candlelight for this special act of worship. Then a busy family service on Christmas morning as we hear the bells ring in celebration - Christ is born!
A very big thank you to everyone that made our services and activities so special, especially for the continued support of our visiting clergy throughout the vacancy.
During Christmas we try to remember those less fortunate than ourselves, specifically the homeless in Bedford and we donate half of our Christmas collections to the SMART Prebend Centre. As the temperatures begin to fall it is good to know that they are able to offer warmth and food. We also send regular food donations which we know the centre find a great help.
Finally, a request for support. A number of local Churches have regretfully been targeted by vandals. Our Church is open every day, please help us by reporting anything unusual.
As always, please email Jill as the first point of contact should you need any information or if you need of a priest - email@example.com.
