AN HOUR BY THE CROSS

Enter in silence. Please stand.

Priest:

Behold the Cross displayed, whereon the Saviour of the world did hang. Come let us worship and bow down.We are come together that we may hear again how our Lord and Saviour suffered upon the Cross, and that hearing, we may offer our lives anew, to Him who died for us.

Let us pray:

Lord have mercy upon us

Christ have mercy upon us

Lord have mercy upon us

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name: Thy Kingdom come:Thy will be done:

In earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation: But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Almighty God , we beseech thee graciously to behold this thy family, for which our Lord Jesus Christ was content to be betrayed, and to suffer death upon the cross, who now livethand reignethwith thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God , world without end. Amen

Assist us mercifully with thy Spirit, O Lord, that thinking upon thy Cross and Passion we may worship thee with thankful hearts. Amen

O Saviour of the world, who by thy Cross and precious blood has redeemed us:

Save us and help us we humbly beseech thee, O Lord

Please sit

Kneel or sit in silence

Priest :

O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, who at the evening hour didst rest in the sepulchre, and  didst thereby sanctify the grave to be a bed of hope to thy people: make us so to abound in sorrow for our sins, which were the cause of the Passion, that when our bodies lie in the dust, our souls may live with thee. Amen

Priest:

Lord Jesus, who on this holy day of thy Passion didst stretch out thine arms upon the hard wood of the Cross, that all might be brought within their saving embrace; draw us unto thyself with thy love, that, being bound unto thee as thy faithful servants, we may take up our cross daily and follow thee, and at length attain thy everlasting joy: who liveth and reigneth with the Father and the Holy Spirit, world without end. Amen

Thanks be to thee, Lord Jesus Christ,

For all the benefits which thou hast won for us

For all the pains and insults which thou hast borne for us:

O most merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother,

May we see thee more clearly

Love thee more dearly

And follow thee more nearly,

Day by day. Amen

Blessing
